The Magnolia Project believes that everyone deserves a chance, regardless of judgments or circumstances. It all began when the founders, James and Regina Gamboa, decided to share a pot of soup made from their leftover Thanksgiving dinner with someone in need. From that act of kindness, The Magnolia Project was born.

As the COVID-19 pandemic hit, the need for assistance grew. Families, in addition to the unsheltered, faced difficulties in making ends meet. The Magnolia Project stepped up by becoming one of the 35 Super Pantries in the county, serving thousands of people in the South Bay area of San Diego. They realized that simply providing food was not a sustainable solution to the crisis. Their goal became to distribute food more dignifiedly, while also addressing the diverse needs of their community.

The Magnolia Project offers a unique approach as the first people’s choice pantry in San Diego County. Clients are invited to visit and choose nutritious, healthy foods free of charge. In addition to food, the pantry also provides pet food, cleaning and hygiene products, and other essential items that cannot be purchased with EBT cards. They have created an alternative and international food section to accommodate cultural sensitivities and dietary restrictions. Anyone in need can benefit from the services provided, with a focus on cities between National City and Ysidro.

The Magnolia Project goes beyond food assistance. They offer nutritional education through literature and even provide educational cooking classes to promote healthy choices.

We invite you to participate in the Magnolia Project Auction Fundraiser. You can help fund their ongoing efforts to support our community by attending and bidding on items. Register or make a donation here.
