On April 24, 2026, The Travelers Companies told the California Department of Insurance it would voluntarily join the Sustainable Insurance Strategy and expand homeowners availability. The company said the SIS — catastrophe models plus reinsurance in the rate, tied to writing in high-risk communities — gave it a reason to add choice.

Insurance Journal noted it as a rare top-carrier signal after January 2025. Mercury and CSAA had already taken SIS filings. Travelers was the one people had been waiting to hear from. Expanding availability is not “we now write every brush score.” It means more files will get a look, especially with documented mitigation.

If you have been on the FAIR Plan since a 2023 or 2024 nonrenewal, this is the year to try the admitted market again. Bring roof age, brush clearance, and any Safer from Wildfires work. We will see whether Travelers or another SIS carrier will actually issue.

If this is on your renewal, call the office at (619) 420-8600 or start a quote. We will tell you what the market will actually write.
